Video by Toronto Star photographer nominated for Emmy Award

A time-lapse video made up of thousands of still photos shot by Toronto Star photographer Lucas Oleniuk has been nominated for an Emmy Award. With the exception of two images, all 20,000 photographs were shot in Ontario, Canada, but they illustrate a global problem. Airsick: An Industrial Devolution serves as a wake-up call that “we’re living in an infrastructure that depends wholly on the burning of fossil fuels”, says Oleniuk. With a haunting original score by Randy Risling, a journalist in the Star’s multimedia department, Airsick plays out like an unsettling dream. “My hope is that one day this film will be seen as the way we used to do things”, says Oleniuk.
