Feeling the heat? Cool down with some great photos of Tofino’s surf culture

Since most of Canada has been baking in a heat wave for the last few weeks, I thought it might be nice to start this week with some cool images of the surf culture in Tofino, British Columbia by Vancouver photographer Kathleen Hinkel. The images were published in the latest issue of Chic/POP, a Bilingual magazine distributed in the rooms and lobbies at Le Germain and Alt Hotels throughout Canada.

My favorite assignments tend to be the ones I can shoot while barefoot on the beach and I always have enjoyed shooting the culture around surfing. It’s a culture that’s about taking the time to enjoy life and celebrate nature and it’s what I shoot when I just want to have fun with my camera. When I’m out shooting for fun I’m not really concerned about whether the photos will be published or not because it’s something I love to do. Still I’m always happy when my work finds a home and I was thrilled to have some of my surf culture photos published in Chic/POP Magazine.
