Little Girl With The Red Ball by Genevieve Caron. One of the prints donated to raise funds for Gian Carlo Drueco.
Some of Canada’s leading commercial, fashion and fine art photographers — including Chris Nicholls, Genevieve Caron, Geoff Barrenger and Colin Faulkner, to name just a few — have rallied together with Toronto’s Silverline Studios to help raise funds for 29-year-old photographer Gian Carlo Drueco who is battling cancer.
The photographers have all donated prints or a piece of artwork to an online silent auction which will run from June 21 until June 28. All proceeds will go to assisting Gian with the costs of living while battling a difficult illness like cancer. If you don’t see anything you feel like bidding on in the silent auction, but would still like to assist Gian, you can also make a donation of any amount at www.helpgianbeatcancer.4ormat.com.
To follow Gian and his partner Michelle’s journey as they navigate the ins and outs of dealing with cancer and all that it brings, please go to Michelle’s blog “Baby, we’ll be fine“. She will be updating it regularly to let everyone know how they are both doing. You can also check out some of Gian’s amazing work at www.giancarlodrueco.com.
Update July 26: I was very saddened today to read that Gian lost his battle with cancer and passed away last week. The funeral was on Tuesday July 24, 2012. I didn’t know Gian, but it’s always heart breaking to hear that someone so young, someone with so much potential, has been taken from their loved ones by this dread disease.
Here is the final post from the blog maintained by his partner Michelle: Goodbye my love…

Rest In Peace - Gian Carlo Drueco
