Camera Bag Strap
Hi Folks
I just spent a week walking the streets of old Quebec City. What a magical place, I loved it. I have tried all sorts of camera bag straps and I am looking for one that is truly non-slip! Any recommendations that have worked for others? I know Domke made one that was used for postal workers any one tried that? Thanks in Advance Wayne I. |

Hi Wayne:
Find a good shoemaker and find a strip of either rough out leather or very rough suede. Have him/her stitch it to your existing strap and make sure it is much longer than just the width of your shoulder. That always used to work for me and my camera bag usually weighed about 60 plus pounds. I am sure there are other fabrics that would also work just as well. Cheers, Peter Peter Wm. Thanks, I went to a luggage repair place today and they are sewing one up for me. I will let you know how it works.

Hi Peter I put the leather shoulder support I had made on to the existing strap today. I had it made as you suggested out of a rough suede 14 inches long. Works like a charm thanks for the suggestion.

Peter Tamrac makes a bag strap like that. Inexpensive; I bought 2 of them. They work well.
The Domke Postal Pad works very well. However, it is expensive in Canada. B&H and Adorama sell them more cheaply, provided you buy enough to offset the shipping cost. I also use Billingham pads on my Billy bags. More expensive, but I enjoy mine. Best DaveL |

I never heard of a Wapiti, and my initial google searches turned up results for Elk. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wapiti_(disambiguation)
I did eventually find the site for Wapiti Straps, which look very nice. I like the clean, simple design. ![]() http://www.wapitistraps.com/ There's not much info on the site about the company, but the area code is in Alberta. So it looks like a Canadian company, which is nice too . ![]() |

Hi Andrew:
And an elk would certainly carry your camera, or gear, effortlessly, though perhaps not where you want to go with it! :-) Happy New Year and all the best to your dad, I hope he is recovering well. Cheers, Peter Wm. Richardson Photojournalist peterw@journalist.com |
