After an extended hiatus CanPhoto is back! This site was launched in 2001 as an online community where working Canadian photographers could support and encourage each other by sharing information and ideas about the unique realities of doing business in the Great White North. The site grew steadily and eventually attracted more than 800 members to the discussion forums, but in 2007 I had to make the difficult decision to shut it down. I thought it would be temporary, but it lasted longer than I expected.
For the first six years I operated and financed the site by myself on a voluntary basis. Some income was generated by online ads and some generous donations from a few members, but it was never enough to cover the operating costs of the site and the time required to maintain it. CanPhoto.Net was never designed to be a big money maker, and I was okay with that. However, around 2007 my personal life changed quite a bit and I could no longer provide the time and energy required to maintain the site. So I had to shut things down. I always regretted that decision, and I hoped that one day I would be able to get the site going again. I thought it might take a few months to get back on track, but the months turned into years and it took much longer than I ever expected.
I would like to express my sincere apologies to all former members for the extended hiatus, and I hope you will give our site another chance. I would also like to offer a warm welcome to any new members and I hope you will get involved in our little corner of the interweb for Canadian photographers.
Best regards,
